Each automobile show has its own specialization. The peculiarity of the 2009 car dealership in Los Angeles can be characterized as “power and speed”: a good half of the novelties from that car breed, a speedometer for up to 300 km/h and more and more. In addition, since the show in Los Angeles is one of the last in the year, for manufacturers this is the final chance to announce something or show. The German concern Porsche took the opportunity and showed the world the lightest representative of his model line — Boxster Spyder.
Actually, masters from Stuttgart showed a new product a month before the opening of the Los Angeles car dealership, but a full presentation happened in the city of Angels. Looking into the future, the designers, as often happens, drew inspiration in the past. Namely, in the Porsche 550 Spyder model, produced from 1953 to 1956. Many considered the Small Mass — 550 kg as a secret to the success of this relatives — 550 kg. The light version of the Spyder model Boxster will not aim in races, but it can be enjoying driving. In the end, the history of Porsche is so rich that the Germans can afford to resemble its milestones.
The prototype of the middle of the last century, of course, did not have an emerging roof, because it did not have a roof as such. Called a load — climb into the box: tent on Boxster Spyder needs to be pulled manually. But to do this is nice — you can see enough of a stunning appearance with a relief “back”, almost like Carrera GT, as well as a slightly detailed face and rear bumper. At first, it seems that the developers in memory of the same 550th Spyder’e decided to get rid of the LEDs — but no, narrow strips are visible in the front air intakes. The car weighs 80 kg easier than Porsche Boxster S. It was possible to reduce the mass thanks to the installation of new aluminum doors and trunk lids, which helped save 18 kg, lighter seats (12 kg), roofs (6 kg), new ultra -light wheel discs, as well as the abandonment of air conditioning and audio systems that transferred to the list of options. The mentioned mechanism of opening the roof and the inner door handles were also sacrificed to the sacrifice — now the ropes instead of them. With a mass of 1275 kg, Boxster Spyder has become the easiest new Porsche car and the fastest representative of the family of double convertibles of the company. The track of the car is wider than the standard — 4 mm in front and 8 mm behind — and the center of gravity compared to Boxster S has decreased by 25 mm. In general, the very thing is to accelerate the sea coast.
As for the dynamics of the car, here the exact data depend on the transmission option, but in any case these indicators are very impressive. Boxster Spyder with a 7-speed PDK gearbox and a set of Sport Chrono Plus options accelerates from a place to 100 km/h in 4, 8 seconds. And Spyder with a 6-speed “mechanics” shows the result of 5, 1 s, which, however, is still two tenths faster than the Porsche Boxster S. Both options are equally good thanks to the installation of the opposite 6-cylinder motor from Cayman S volume 3. 4 liters with a direct fuel injection system and increased power and thrust. The power of the engine working with the PDK transmission is 320 liters. With., that 10 units are more than what is under the hood of Boxster S. The model with a reconfigurated suspension after starting can continue acceleration up to 267 km/h, and the average fuel consumption of the relatives in the mixed cycle does not exceed 9, 3 liters. So that the inhabitants do not yearn in practicality in an ascetic salon, engineers reconfigured the suspension: they put new springs, shock absorbers and reptile stabilizers. That’s why the newcomer behaves more aggressively on the highway than the version with a hard roof. The brakes of the novelty remained 318 mm, perforated and ventilated, in addition, there is a differential of increased friction. But the steering has changed — from now on it is more sharp with a slight correction of the trajectory of movement and slightly slowed in a wide range of rotation of the steering wheel. When looking at these personnel, it involuntarily thinks: what would happen at such a speed with a roof? And here you have to point to a couple of inconvenience of the novelty. Firstly, indeed, with the top raised, the speed of Boxster Spyder does not exceed two hundred kilometers per hour, and secondly, it is not recommended to wash a convertible on an automatic sink-even with a raised roof. However, it is not a sin to wash such a car with your hands and once again touch the living embodiment of the story of a famous brand.
Porsche Boxster Spyder will go on sale in February 2010. The base price without taxes for European countries is approximately 53 thousand euros. For example, for Germany, the model will be more expensive than Boxster S by 12%. But how can we talk about money, before the pure incarnation of the drive, not burdened with excess weight?
